Some people might wonder: how exactly does the feature that allows you to see your family member's location just by opening the app work? Today, let's talk about the implementation logic behind the Milu Finder app.

1. Roles Played

The Milu Finder app has two types of roles:

  • The Protected (usually the elderly or children): Responsible for reporting the location.

  • The Guardian (usually an adult): Can see the current and past locations of the protected person.

Simply put: one phone is constantly "sending" the location, and the other phone is "viewing" it. The protected person's phone only needs to complete the initial setup in the app, and after that, no further action is required; it will work on its own.

2. Reporting Timing and Frequency

Location reporting is not "keeping the GPS on and uploading constantly," which would drain the phone's battery in half a day. It uses a specific strategy.

Under normal circumstances, the protected person's phone reports its location once every 3 minutes. This frequency is enough for the guardian to know the detailed location without consuming too much power.

Between 23:00 and 05:00 in the middle of the night, when most people are sleeping, the app automatically switches to a power-saving mode and reports once every 30 minutes.

In addition, if the protected person's phone is left motionless on a table, the app will intelligently switch to sleep mode and will not report repeatedly.

3. Location Accuracy Issues

Scenarios with poor signal reception, such as shopping malls, subway stations, and underground parking garages, are nightmares for location-tracking apps. Milu Finder has put a lot of effort into this and ultimately adopted a combined strategy of GPS + WiFi + mobile network positioning.

Therefore, even in places with very poor signal, there is a high probability that a location can still be seen, although the accuracy may be slightly lower.

4. Viewing Methods

Once the data is reported, how does the guardian view it?

By opening the Milu Finder app, logging into the guardian account, and completing the binding with the protected person, you can see their exact location on the map.

Additionally, there is a trajectory playback feature, which allows you to see where the protected person went on a specified date, drawing a complete trajectory route on the map.

5. What Do I Need to Do?

For all the features mentioned above to function normally, there is a prerequisite: the Milu Finder app on the protected person's phone must not be killed (force-closed).

However, the reality is that Android smartphone manufacturers (such as Xiaomi, OPPO, vivo, Huawei, etc.) manage background processes very strictly and frequently clear apps from memory. To solve this problem, many protective measures have been implemented within the program.

But the decisive factor is that you need to give the app the green light by configuring the following key settings:

  • Ignore battery optimization (also known as "Allow background activity," "Allow high background power consumption," or "Power saving strategy - No restrictions").

  • Allow the app to auto-start.

  • Lock the app in the recent tasks/taskbar.

Furthermore, to achieve aggressive power saving, some mobile phone brands have added extra features specifically for clearing the background, such as:

  • Huawei/Honor: Settings -> Battery -> Power Saving Mode / Ultra Power Saving Mode (This mode must be turned off to prevent the app from being killed).

  • Xiaomi: Security -> Deep Clean -> App Smart Battery Saver (The target app needs to be individually excluded).

  • OPPO/OnePlus: Settings -> Battery -> Advanced Settings -> Smart Background / Sleep Standby Optimization (It is recommended to turn this off to prevent the app from being killed).

  • Samsung: Settings -> General Management -> Memory -> Excluded Apps (Add the target app here so it is not included in memory cleaning).

All the settings above are extremely important. If they are not configured, you might stop receiving location updates overnight, which most likely means the phone's system has "killed" the app.
